PITTSBURG, Kan. — A fire shortly after midnight on Thursday destroyed a home on Evergreen Lane in the Parkview Estates and RV Community. The occupants of the home, a family of four, managed to escape unharmed, although one of their two dogs died in the fire.
The Pittsburg Fire Department responded to the structure fire and observed flames coming from the exterior of the mobile home.
According to the fire department, the family exited the residence before the crew arrived.
Fire crews brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes, but remained on scene to extinguish hot spots and complete overhaul operations. No foul play is suspected of the fire’s origin.
Because the home and its contents were a complete loss, the American Red Cross is assisting the two adults and children ages 2 1/2 and 6 months old. The Red Cross reported that the family is staying with relatives temporarily. The Salvation Army and the St. Mary's Bargain Center are providing clothing and personal care items for the family and the Red Cross provided them with debit cards for their medical needs.
