PITTSBURG, Kan. — A historic series of small staple-bound books is finding new life in Pittsburg State University’s Porter Hall with the help of students and staff. PSU Department of Art Assistant Instructional Professor Olivia Timmons, PSU Curator of Special Collections/Archivist/Assistant Professor Sara DeCaro, and student intern Angel Abshire along with several other students have been reproducing some of the historic “Little Blue Books” by Emanuel Haldeman-Julius using original plates from the university’s Special Collections and a vintage Vandercook Press. It all started when Abshire was cleaning up some of the original plates.
