PITTSBURG, Kan. — On Sunday, the Girard Fire Department held its 35th Annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service, which honored the firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty in the past year, including Lt. Malachi Brown, a Baxter Springs firefighter who died from injuries received at a fire last October. Over 50 community members attended the memorial service, which was held at the Girard Fire Department, including Lt. Brown’s family. The service began with traditional bagpipes, and a ceremonial flyover from a Med-Flight helicopter.
