GIRARD, Kan. — Aiming to grow its personnel, the Girard Police Department is looking for new ways to entice young, aspiring police officers. Rural police agencies across the United States struggle to hire and retain the next generation of officers. Rural police departments face underrepresentation, resource limits, physical isolation, and restricted access to training and technology.
