Flags fly at half staff to honor slain officer

TOPEKA – On Tuesday, Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly directed that flags be flown at half-staff on all state buildings, grounds, and facilities from sunup to sundown on Wednesday, September 3, in honor of Kansas City, Kan., Police Officer Hunter Simoncic, who was killed in the line of duty on August 26. A public memorial service to honor Simoncic is planned for 10 a.m., Wednesday, at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kan. On Thursday, Sept. 4, a Rosary service is set for 2 p.m. with Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 2:30 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, in Parsons.
