PITTSBURG, Kan. — Tuesday night’s city commission meeting in Pittsburg began with a presentation by the new Pittsburg State University President Thomas Newsome as he officially introduced himself to the board. Newsome announced that enrollment in this year’s freshman class is up 12 percent from last year — for the first time since 2017 — meaning that there are more students living on campus and spending money in the community. He applauded Gorilla athletes for doing well in their respective sports and gave special mention to the women’s soccer team, saying if they continue to win a couple more conference matches, then PSU will host the first round of the conference tournament.
