PITTSBURG, Kan. — Tuesday night’s city commission meeting in Pittsburg was dominated by rising property taxes as citizens asked the commission for some relief by setting the mill levy at the revenue neutral rate, which would, at least, keep their property taxes at the same level as last year. Particularly vulnerable are the elderly on fixed incomes, they argued. Between the city, the county, and the school district levies, they are seeing their property taxes go up every year, by as much as 6 percent each year in some cases the residents said.
