GIRARD, Kan. — A concerned citizen requested that the commission extend the current moratorium on solar and wind power, which is still in effect until Dec. 31 of this year, so that the county has time to commission an environmental impact study saying that the detrimental impacts of wind and solar are not worth the risk. A number of citizens have expressed similar concerns about the construction of wind and solar projects by citing excessive noise, electromagnetic fields, and the disposal of turbine blades. Commissioner Tom Moody explained that the county must have a reason to impose a moratorium, and that reason is the county is working on updating its comprehensive plan.
