A Quilt of Valor is presented to Petty Officer First Class Robert Tolman who served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1967. During that time, he served in the “Gator Navy” aboard the USS Iwo Jima (LPH-2), a type of amphibious assault ship resembling a small aircraft carrier and designed to deliver Marines across a hostile beach via landing craft, amphibious assault vehicle, or by helicopter.
