100 Years Ago June 18-20, 1922 An airplane that can remain stationary in the air, the helicopter machine, is the invention of Emil Berliner of Washington, D.C., a former dry goods clerk, and a cousin of Sam Israel of this city. Apparently successful trials of the new helicopter airplane were conducted yesterday near College Park, Md., in the presence of experts from the navy department’s bureau of aeronautics. The very difficult and long play “Hamlet” was given last night at Carney Hall with admirable skill and precision by the Shakespeare Playhouse of which Frank McEntee is director.
