100 Years Ago June 30, 1922 Branding miners of the district who are now working, against the wishes of the international union, as “double crossers” and “the very best friends of the industrial court law, Governor Allen and the coal operators,” a statement issued from provisional headquarters yesterday and signed by officers of several local unions, declares that those working are “outside of the union.” Attendance at the opening municipal band concert of the summer, last night at Lincoln Park, broke all previous records, the crowd being variously estimated at from 3,000 to 5,000. Although many new seats were provided in the band shell, they were all taken, while hundreds stood or sat on the ground. A big hit was made by the band conducted by J. J. Richards, several encores being received.
