PITTSBURG, Kan. — A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle early Friday morning, according to the Pittsburg Police Department.

The police reported that at approximately 12:17 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, Pittsburg police, fire and Crawford County EMS were dispatched to the intersection of Joplin and Forest. At the scene, a 2005 Toyota Highlander was on top of a pedestrian, Ethan McKibben.

Officers learned that the driver, Kathryn Madsen, 35, was traveling northbound on Joplin, and due to lighting and weather conditions, failed to see McKibben, who was walking in the middle of the road and wearing dark clothing.

McKibben was treated at the scene and later transported to Mercy Hospital. The accident is still under investigation.
