Members of the Pittsburg and Fort Scott chapters of the Sons of the American Revolution and Daughters of the American Revolution, along with 50 volunteers, placed 8,500 American Flags on  the fort’s historic parade ground. Originating in the years following the Civil War, a "Field of Honor" is part of the "Symbols of Sacrifice" Commemoration, serving to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the United States. This display is a way to remember and honor the sacrifices of service members. Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day. Retiring the Field will be on Tuesday, May 27th, 2025, at 8:30 am.
