Crawford County Mental Health Center’s governing board announced Tuesday that it has established an advisory board “to incorporate meaningful participation of clients, family members, advocates, and passionate community members.” The advisory board was created as part of a $4 million CCBHC grant through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).   more

Despite the fog and rain, over 250 area first graders and teachers from Pittsburg Community Schools and Saint Mary’s-Colgan met Santa Claus and a pair of his elves for a ride on his private train on Tuesday morning. The annual event is made possible by Watco Industries’ Southern Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad (SKOL) and volunteers from Heart of the Heartlands.  more
Frontenac council discusses infrastructure

Monday night’s Frontenac City Council meeting concentrated on upcoming and ongoing infrastructure projects. In his report to the council, City Administrator John Zafuta said the city’s finances are in good shape as revenues are up and expenses are down, leaving the city with an additional $1 million in revenue for the year.   more

Two firefighters hurt in Tuesday fire

A house fire on Locust Street left two firefighters with minor injuries Tuesday, and resulted in a pet casualty, but human occupants of the residence were unharmed.  more
Larry Dustin Flowers, 39, of Webb City, Missouri, was recently sentenced in Cherokee County District Court to more than four years in prison for two cases involving fleeing from law enforcement, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.  more

Pittsburg Parks and Recreation Director Toby Book was presented a check for $10,000 by the staff of Riggs Chiropractic on Friday evening. The funds are to be used for the construction of a new miniature golf course at Four Oaks in Lincoln Park as part of a match amount required for additional grant funding.   more
