Norma Jean Scroggins

Born March 17, 1933, Norma passed away on Sept. 18, 2024. Norma, 91, lived all her life in Crawford County. She was the first daughter born to Leland Henry and Jeanie (Mitchell) Ridings of Girard. She graduated from Girard High School. She married Charles Taylor Scroggins on Dec. 22, 1951. His death in 2011 parted them just months before their 60th wedding anniversary. 

Norma loved her family, dogs, friends, work, traveling, sewing, quilting, camping, reading, and being outdoors. She attended the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas for over 40 years. She loved to play Bingo at Big Cedar Lodge. She relaxed around campfires in the Kansas State Parks. She never passed by a quilt shop without stopping or missed watching Wheel of Fortune. She retired at 80 years old after working at Foodtown grocery store, Ramsay's department store, Three Women and a Blanket and Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy. 

Surviving are the children that loved her dearly; Bill Scroggins & Karan, Joyce Scroggins, Jim Scroggins and Judy Sprague & Bert. Grandchildren; Michael Puckett and Janice Puffinbarger & Chris, Stephanie Swezey, Jennifer Ganer & Bryan 15 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. 

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Charles and granddaughter Stephanie Baert and a great-grandson, her parents, older brothers; Leland, Elmer, and Robert, and her younger sister; Alice Marie Keopke.

The family wishes to thank her daughter Joyce for the round-the-clock in home care she provided, to keep Mom, Grandma, Aunt Nome, and our cousin comfortable until her last day with us. 

A celebration of life will be held May 24, 2025. On that day, her ashes will be interred in the Scroggins family plot at the Carterville Cemetery in Carterville, Missouri.
