Marie Therese Yaghmour

Marie Yaghmour, 76, of Leawood, KS, passed away Friday, September 1st at St Luke's South Hospital. Marie was born February 17, 1947, in Alexandria, Egypt to Adib and Salma Tawil. She graduated from Mère de Dieu school and went on to graduate summa cum laude from Pittsburg State University in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in Spanish and political science. She married Talaat Yaghmour on February 3, 1968, in Montreal, Canada, and they spent 55 wonderful years together. She first came to the United States (Leavenworth, KS) in August of 1968 to join her husband who was a urology resident at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. They moved shortly afterward to Kansas City and then to Pittsburg, KS, where she spent the next 40+ years until she moved to Leawood, KS in 2013. Besides raising 3 children, which was a full-time job, she was continually active in the community. Some of her more notable roles: Pink Lady for the hospital for many years, Women's Auxiliary member, active participant of the Tuesday

Morning Rosary Group, Pittsburg Public Library Foundation, and Chapter AQ P.E.O.

Marie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who more than anything cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. Marie loved her grandchildren dearly and was a regular at most of their activities. She was a woman of steadfast faith, lived a life of service to others, and throughout her life served God. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Talaat (died 12.24.2022) and her parents. 

She is survived by three children, Ted (Lisa) Yaghmour, Nashville, TN, George (Dana) Yaghmour, Pittsburg, KS, Veronica (Peter) Mallouk, Leawood, KS; nine grandchildren, Anthony, Andrew, Vanessa, Lauren, Danielle, Mya, Michael, JP and Gabby; her sister, Laila Yaghmour; her brother, Elias (Magda) Tawil; her brother-in-law Medhat (Mona) Yaghmour, and their families. 

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with funeral mass starting at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9th at St. Michael the Archangel, 14251 Nall Avenue, Overland Park, KS, with Father Brian Schieber as the Celebrant and Father Andrew Labenz as the Co-Celebrant. Burial at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Overland Park, KS will follow shortly thereafter. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Michael the Archangel, Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund, or Pittsburg State University.
