GIRARD -- Citizens of the 2nd District will have a new representative in the Kansas House in the next session of the Legislature. Incumbent Ken Collins lost his bid to return to Topeka to challenger Dan Muter in the Republican primary, Tuesday, 664 to 1,106 votes. Muter will face Democrat Avery Rowland in November.

A familiar face is returning to the Crawford County Commission, however, as incumbent Bruce Blair easily fended off two challengers, Paul “Speedy” Totman and Bryan Hanson. Blair garnered 751 votes to 479 for Hanson and 283 for Totman in the Republican primary. There is no Democratic candidate running for that position in the general election.

On the Democratic side of the primary in Crawford County, Isaiah Harris easily beat Isys Galindo, 1,065 to 508 to become the official party candidate for the 3rd District House seat. He will come up against DJ Perry in Nov.

Crawford County voters joined a statewide majority in rejecting a constitutional amendment that would have changed the way Supreme Court justices are selected. The measure failed in Crawford County 3,657 to 3,038. Statewide, the voters said “no” by a comfortable margin.

In other races of note: Crawford County gave Democrat Adam Hamilton a comfortable margin in his race to try to unseat Sen. Roger Marshall and they favored Cindy Holscher over Ethan Corson, 1,337 to 614 to be their standard bearer in the race for governor.

Statewide and in Crawford County, Ty Masterson led a pack of Republicans in the race to become governor.

According to the Crawford County Clerk, 6,989 voters cast ballots in the primary.
