PITTSBURG, KS – During this latest winter storm, Pittsburg community members have come together to help keep each other safe.
In the past two days, snow and extreme temperatures as low as –14 degrees with windchill have caused many organizations like The Lord’s Diner, Wesley House, Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas (CHC/SEK) and others to halt their services. But the City of Pittsburg, with the help of the Meadowside Baptist Church and many volunteers, opened an emergency 24-hour warming center to shield those in need from the brutal elements, which can quickly cause frostbite or hypothermia.
