After nearly two months of raising funds for a new baler, a machine used to compress waste products into a form that is easy to manage for recycling or disposal, the Southeast Kansas Recycling Center reached its goal of $10,000 to match a replacement grant. Sending their appreciation for the community support on a Facebook update Wednesday morning, the local recycling center is now waiting to see if the Kansas Department of Health and Environment supports approval of the grant.

On May 24, 2024, Kevin Dale was presented a Quilt of Valor at the PSU Veterans Memorial.  Staff Sergeant Dale served in the Marines from 1986 to 1991. In additional to assignments in Japan and Korea, Dale also served with a Marine Security Guard Detachments at the U.S. consulate in Calcutta, India, and U.S. embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he escorted such dignitaries as George Bush and Margaret Thatcher.
