Theresa M. "Terrie" Novero

Theresa M. "Terrie" Novero, 76, of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away peacefully at Via Christi Village on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.

Terrie was born in Pittsburg, Kansas, on October 3, 1946, to William Novero and Theresa "Tracy" Bugni Novero. In August 1948, brother Bill arrived, followed by sister Cathy in April 1951. Terrie lived most of her life in the house at 1621 N Michigan Street, built by hand by her father, with the help of one of her older cousins.

Terrie attended Lincoln Grade School, Roosevelt Junior High, and Pittsburg High School, where she graduated in 1964.

After high school, Terrie enrolled as a full-time student at the two-year business-secretarial program at the Kansas State College of Pittsburg. Terrie paid her tuition, fees, and books from her earnings working at the college.

Within days of graduation in 1966, Terrie was hired by the Pittsburg Credit Bureau, where she worked for 24 years.

Terrie began working at the Pittsburg YMCA in 1990. For more than 30 years, Terrie worked at the front desk of the Pittsburg Family Y. Terrie talked about why she enjoyed working at the front desk:

From young kids to older adults, everyone deserves a smile and a friendly face.

I love being the first friendly face that members see after coming through the front door. And I love helping them.

I enjoyed helping out the many college students who worked at the Pittsburg Y. This might be their first job, and I wanted to make it a success.

Terrie's first car was a blue 1966 Ford Mustang. More than 50 years later, Terrie acquired her last car, a new 2018 Ford Mustang - in blue, just like her first Mustang. If you knew Terrie, you probably saw her happily driving that blue 2018 Ford Mustang.

Terrie was preceded in death by her parents, William and Tracy Novero. She is survived by her brother, William Novero (and wife Barbara), her sister, Catherine A. Woodbury (and husband David). Terrie is also survived by her nephews Drew (Ann), Jay (Deanne), Christopher (Kirsten), Brendan (Margaret), and Christopher (Ann); and her great nephews and nieces: Tyler, Brooklyn, Ally, Jesse, Owen, Hannah, Lucy, Frankie, and Josey. Two special people, Matthew and Brittany, were very important in Terrie's life, as well as Dalainee, Xavier, and Ivan. Terrie loved them all. In keeping with Terrie's wishes, the family suggests contributions to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or the charity of your choice. The family deeply appreciates the excellent care that Terrie received from the nurses and staff of Court B at Via Christi Village, and from the nurses and staff of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.

A visitation and rosary with family and friends will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 4th, at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg, Kansas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 5th at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 109 E. 9th Street, Pittsburg, KS.

Terrie will be buried at Highland Park Cemetery, 2025 S. Broadway, Pittsburg, Kansas. Following the burial, lunch will be served to family and friends at the fieldhouse northeast of the church.

Please join Terrie's family and friends in remembering Terrie and celebrating her life.
