Steven “Steve” P. Saia, 68, of Joplin, Missouri, formerly of Frontenac, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024, at the Solace House in Joplin, following a short illness.
Steve was born on June 16, 1956, in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He lived in Joplin for the past 13 years, but most of his life was in Frontenac, Kansas. He was an engineer for the Kansas City Southern and Missouri Northern Arkansas (MNA) Railroads for many years before retiring. Steve was of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed going to casinos, playing pool, fishing, watching YouTube videos, traveling with his wife and scuba diving.
He married Linda VanBuskirk on Oct. 26, 1987, in Pittsburg, Kansas, and she survives.
Other survivors include; one step-son, Matthew Dutton of Pittsburg, Kansas and one step-daughter, Lindsay (Mike Burney) Altheide of Joplin, Missouri; two brothers, David (Carolyn Wood) Saia of Arma, Kansas and Scott (Cheryl) Saia of Joplin, Missouri; two sisters, Shari Saia of Girard, Kansas and Mona (John) Miller of Topeka, Kansas; Nine Step-Grandchildren, Brittney (Devin) Linn, Jeremy Dutton, Dylan Altheide, Peyton Altheide, Remi Dutton, Jace Dutton, Easton Burney, Jake Burney, and Harper Burney.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Philip and Marilyn Bavaro Saia; one brother, Vincent Saia; and one Step Grandchild, Dawson Linn.
Per his wishes, Steve will be cremated with a Celebration of Life held later.
Services have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory in Joplin, Missouri.
