Sherri L. Anderson

Sherri L. Anderson, 64, of Pittsburg and formerly of Parsons, passed away at 5:51 p.m., Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Via Christi Village in Pittsburg.

Sherri Louise Collins was born on January 14, 1959, to Francis Leroy and Mable Louise (Gitchell) Collins in Parsons. As a young girl, she grew up and attended Lincoln, Garfield and Washington schools in Parsons. She moved with her family to California and worked in dry yards harvesting walnuts and grapes.

She and Eugene Freddie Archuleta were united in marriage. The couple later divorced. Later Sherri was united in marriage to Ronald Raymond Robbins, and the couple moved to Mound Valley. The couple later divorced. For a time, Sherri worked at the Townsman Hotel and Restaurant. Over the years, Sherri worked at the Post Office in Parsons and drove a transportation van for Senior Services for S.E.K. In 1992, Sherri moved to Pittsburg and worked at the former Mt. Carmel Home Care for 15 years. She also worked at Healing Hands and Caring Hearts and Medical Lodge Home Health.

On July 14, 1998, Sherri and Eugene Kenneth Anderson were united in marriage in Harrisonville, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on May 21, 2012.

She was a member of the Church of the Latter-Day Saints and, more recently, was attending the Crossroad Baptist Church in Girard.

Over the years, Sherri was a very active member of the VFW Auxiliary #1158 at the Brown-Bishop VFW Post 704. She served as the 3rd District President 2012-13 and again 2017-18, as Senior Vice-President for the local chapter 2015-2020, and had also served as the chapter's Chaplain. In earlier years, Sherri was a member of the American Legion Post #64.

Sherri was known for her kindness, for putting others first, and for making others smile. She enjoyed visiting with friends and loved to fish. Other favorite past times included crocheting, making jewelry and recycling.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Anderson; and one brother, Virgil Collins.

There will be a Celebration of Life at Noon on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Brown-Bishop VFW Post 704 in Parsons. Burial will take place at a later date at the Fort Scott National Cemetery.
