Rodney E. Cheney, 57, of Cherokee, KS, passed away on April 29, 2023, at his home in Cherokee, Kansas.

Rodney was born on July 30, 1965, to Donald and Fannie Mae (McClelland) Cheney in Girard, Kansas.

He attended Southeast schools and graduated from Southeast High School in 1983.

Rodney was a concrete finisher, starting his career at B&H Construction and Home Center Construction before going out on his own. He also worked at Pittsburg State University for over 20 years. Rodney also enjoyed his mules and his hunting dogs.

On September 6, 1990, he was united in marriage to Jodi Lewman in Pittsburg. They later divorced.

He is survived by three children, Elizabeth Heacock (Matt) of Melbourne, FL, Clinton Cheney (Molli) of Frontenac, KS, and Seth Cheney of Kansas City, KS; four grandchildren, Chase Cheney, Colin Cheney, Madelyn Heacock, and Amelia Heacock; four brothers, Mike Cheney of McCune, KS, Craig Cheney of Belton, MO, Roger Cheney of Frontenac, KS, Steve Cheney of McCune KS; a sister, Kathy Mauro of Overland Park, KS; Best friend Kim Hudlemeyer of Cherokee, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2023, at the Cherokee Cemetery, with Pastor Donnie Talent officiating. Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Brenner Mortuary in Pittsburg, KS. Memorial donations can be made to Harry Hynes Hospice.
