Man arrested after early morning vehicle theft

PITTSBURG, Kan. — A Pittsburg man is being held in the Cherokee County Jail following an early morning pursuit.

Around 2 a.m., on Thursday, July 13, Cherokee County Deputies were alerted to the theft of a truck from a home in the northeast part of the county. Several firearms were in the vehicle at the time of the theft.

While searching the area, deputies located the stolen truck and attempted to stop it. The suspect fled from Cherokee County into Crawford County.

Crawford County Sheriff's Deputies engaged the suspect, who similarly fled from them before bailing on foot into a wooded area. 

The suspect, 33-year-old Dakota Lee Clay, of Pittsburg, was located, apprehended and transported to the Cherokee County Jail where he is being held on allegations of felony theft, theft of a firearm, fleeing and eluding and driving while suspended.
