GIRARD, Kan. — The Crawford County Farm Bureau Association Board of Directors has announced their commitment to donate up to $10,000 to the Restore the Four project at the Crawford County Fairgrounds. The Association has pledged a dollar-for-dollar match of all cash donations received between Aug. 23 and Feb. 23, 2024, up to $10,000 total, to assist with the repair or replacement of the rabbit and poultry barn roof.
Restore the Four is a cooperative effort between Harrigans’ Barn and the Crawford County Fair Association to preserve the four remaining Works Progress Administration (WPA) buildings at the fairgrounds. This multi-year project began in 2022, with work planned for one building per year through 2025 until restoration is complete.
“Our organization recognizes the work John Harrigan and Susie Thom have put into this project and we appreciate their dedication. We know they’re attempting to do much of the work utilizing volunteer assistance and there would be a need for capital to help fund repairs that might require a professional contractor. We’re pleased to be able to offer this assistance,” noted Crawford County Farm Bureau Association President Aaron Zagonel.
“Restore the Four and Harrigans’ Barn would like to thank Crawford County Farm Bureau Association for their kind donation of a funds match opportunity to benefit the efforts at the Crawford County fairgrounds,” said Susie Thom. “We are focused on preserving the four remaining WPA buildings that were built in 1936. The funds donated by Farm Bureau, along with the matched funds, will go toward the roof repair fund on the rabbit and poultry barn. Thank you, Farm Bureau, for your kind support of our efforts.”
