Barbara Ellen Potter Schrag

Barbara Ellen Potter Schrag, born on April 25, 1947, in Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away on June 14, 2024, at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas. She was 77 years old.

Barbara graduated from Pittsburg State University with a degree in elementary education. She later returned to Pittsburg State to earn a master's degree in special education, demonstrating her lifelong commitment to learning and teaching.

Barbara dedicated her professional life to education, teaching at several schools including Lakeside Elementary, George Nettles Elementary, and Pittsburg Middle School. She continued her career in Olathe, teaching at Pioneer Trail Junior High School. Her passion for education and her dedication to her students made a lasting impact on countless lives.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Katherine Potter; her brothers, Jim, Larry, and David Potter; her daughter, Rachel McQuitty; and her son-in-law, John McQuitty.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Gary Schrag, whom she married in 1986. Barbara also leaves behind her daughter, Kim Taylor (Phil) of Council Bluffs, Iowa; stepson, Tim Schrag (Bobbie) of Dayton, Oregon; and stepdaughter, Christina Jensen (Scott) of Thousand Oaks, California. She was a proud grandmother to Dalton McQuitty, Ryan Taylor, Rayven Taylor, Kyle Schrag, Bevin Schrag, Taylor Schrag, Kara Jensen, and Noelle Jensen. Barbara is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.

Barbara's warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and students will be deeply missed. Her legacy of love and education will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Barbara's honor to Center of Grace, Olathe, KS.

A service to celebrate the life of Barbara will be held on Tuesday, June 18th, with viewing at 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, Olathe, KS. Friends and family are invited to attend and share their memories of Barbara.
