Wallace "Wally" Rons

Wallace "Wally" Rons, 92, of Arma, died at 8:50 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, at his home.

Mr. Rons was born Aug. 17, 1929 in Arma, the son of Lay and Anna Polsak Rons. Wally was a retired custodian for Northeast High School. He also worked for Kansas State Highway Department and was a self-employed carpenter and plumber. He was raised in Arma and graduated from Arma High School in the Class of 1947. He later attended the Chicago Technology College. He married Betty J. Zibert on April 28, 1951, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma. Mrs. Rons preceded him in death on March 23, 2019.

He was a veteran of the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. He received the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal with one bronze camp star, Combat Infantry Badge, Soldiers Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma and was a CYO leader, the Lon Helm Post #182 American Legion in Arma, and the Arma Christmas Club, where he replaced all the Christmas lights that needed to be replaced.

Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Ashmore and her husband Dave of Arma; a son, Barry Rons and his wife Joy of St. Johns, Michigan; four grandchildren, Blayne Rons and his wife Teresa, Dustin Ashmore and his wife Trina, Heather Tedlock and her husband Kyle, and Chase Rons and his wife Allison; and three great-grandchildren, Landon Hege and Brayden Rons, and Fischer Tedlock.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, brother Leo Rons, and great-grandson Canaan Colby Rons.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma with Father Lee Yoakam as the celebrant. Burial will be at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Bedene Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends following the rosary until 7 p.m. The Ft. Riley Burial Detail will conduct graveside flag folding services.

The family suggests memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, KS 66712.
