Mike Smart was born on November 5, 1949, in Kansas City, Missouri, to William Arthur Smart and Edna Arlene (Ellis) Smart and was raised by his grandmother, Myrtle Smart, from Arma, Kansas. Mike graduated from Northeast High School in Arma in 1968 and from Emporia State University in 1971. He then moved to Dallas, Texas, where he worked in the banking industry; for UT Southwestern Medical Center (retiring in 2015); and, recently, Southern Methodist University. Mike passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, after a brief hospital stay. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 14506 E. 39th Street, Independence, Missouri 64055.
