Margaret Shelburn

Margaret Shelburn, 101, of Riverton, Kansas, passed away at 10:49 p.m., Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at the Legacy Assisted Living in Baxter Springs, Kansas.

She was born on December 16, 1921, in Hamilton, Iowa, to Walter and Fonnetta Montana (Greenwood) Carrico.

On October 2, 1948, she was united in marriage to Arthur L. Wehmeyer in Parsons, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 31, 1967. She then married Bradford O. Shelburn on January 17, 1968, at the First Christian Church in Miami, Oklahoma. They lived in Pittsburg until 1972 when they built their house in Riverton. He preceded her in death on September 20, 1998. Mrs. Shelburn found her next dancing partner, Frank Gartner, Sr., with whom she enjoyed his companionship until he passed away on September 17, 2007.

Mrs. Shelburn worked as a checker for Food Town north in Pittsburg for many years.

When she was not working, you could find Margaret on the dance floors all over Southeast Kansas, dancing 6 to 7 times a week until she was 98 years young.

Survivors include a step-son, Bill Gartner, and his wife, Jeri of Milliken, Colorado; nieces, Marjorie and Andy Anderson, Las Vegas, Nevada, Ruth Erdman of Spokane, Washington, and Barbara and Dan Daniels of Liberty Lake, Washington; and a nephew, Robert A. Gunter of Orland, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and three sisters, Louise Buella Bazin, Helen "Pauline" Clark, and Mary "Lois" Gunter.

A Graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 14), at the Mt. Olive Cemetery with Pastor Randy DePriest officiating. Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery.
