Joyce A. Dawson, age 69, passed away at 5:25 am Wednesday March 22, 2023, following a lengthy illness.
Joyce was born June 21, 1953 in Somerset, KY. Her parents were Rowland and Lydia (Blevins) Price Sr.
She attended the University of Kentucky, Lexington, earned a bachelor's degree in Geology in 1975, and completed two additional years of graduate studies in Geology. She moved to Pittsburg, KS, in 1978. She attended Pitt State, graduating with a bachelor's degree in nursing in 1992, and a master's degree in 1997. As a registered nurse, she worked more than 20 years, primarily with infants and older adults. She taught nursing courses for Ft. Scott Community College and clinical courses for Pitt State. She was also a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant. She retired in 2017.
Joyce married Dr. James Dawson in August of 1976 in Somerset, KY. They were blessed with twin sons in 1981.
She was a member of College Heights United Methodist Church. She was active in many organizations, including the League of Women Voters and Centennial Choir. Her hobbies iincluded sewing and cooking.
Survivors include James Dawson and Adam Dawson of the home. Additional survivors include Dr. David Dawson and family, Iris and Daisey of Frontenac, KS; and her brother Rowland Price Jr. of Somerset, KY.
She was entrusted to the Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS for cremation.
A celebration of life will be held in June.
