Elmer Joe Fields

Elmer Joe Fields, 85, of Pittsburg, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023.
Elmer Joe was born on January 15, 1938, to Elmer Fields and Marjorie Fields in Pittsburg, Kansas. Elmer Joe went to Pittsburg High School, where he graduated in 1956.
After high school, he went on to serve in the Army Reserves from 1956 to 1968. Shortly thereafter, He moved to Portland, Oregon, where he worked for View Master for many years. Elmer Joe spoke often of his life in Oregon and the many adventures he went on. He loved traveling and photographing all of his adventures. Upon retiring, he moved back to Pittsburg, Kansas, to be closer to family and friends. While living out retirement back in Pittsburg, Elmer Joe was involved in his high school class fellowship, where he also attended monthly luncheons with them. He spent many years collecting antiques and attending auctions. Elmer Joe was known for his extravagant yard, which was decorated with many of his antique and art finds from over the years. Another passion of his was his beloved animals which he acquired over the years. Many of his animals would wander up on his porch, where not a single one was ever turned away. They all quickly became his family, and not a day went by when Elmer Joe didn't mention his animals.
Elmer Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Marjorie Fields. He is survived by his sister, Sharon Stephens, and brother, Charles Fields, plus many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Elmer Joe was a very private individual in life, and the family has requested a private burial at the Garden of Memorial to be observed at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to SEK Humane Society of Pittsburg, Kansas, to support the love Elmer Joe had for all animals. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
