Clifford D. Scales

Clifford D. Scales "Bud" 75, of Girard, died at 3 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, 2022, at his home following an illness.

Clifford was born Nov. 26, 1946, in Girard, the son of Hilton B. and Mildred (Childers) Scales. He was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Girard High School.

Clifford married Joan M. Hallacy on May 30, 1964, in Greenbush, Kansas. She survives at the home. Clifford worked as a coal miner, for the Electric and Water Department for the City of Girard, SEC-Kan, and for Crawford County as a road grader.

Clifford was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Girard. He enjoyed fishing, riding in the car, gardening, spending time with his grandkids, and playing jokes on friends and family.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Judy Light and husband James of Girard, Nancy Hall and husband Brian of Spring Hill, Kansas, Shelia Harold and husband Lloyd of Olathe, Kansas, Cliff Scales and wife Janel of Girard, and Tom Scales and wife Renee of Girard; siblings, Carolyn Hallacy, Gary Scales, Roberta Scales, Richard Scales, Pete Scales, Shirley Scales, and Linda Scales; grandchildren, Joey Shidler, Josh Shidler, Nick Shidler, Ryan Light, Mitchell Baker, Clayton Hall, Gannon Hall, Justice Raymond, Sierra Cook, Zebulan Lyons, Broc Scales, Kaleb Scales, Gavin Scales, Nicole Scales, and Tyler Scales; and great-grandchildren, Alexis Shidler, Ariana Shidler, William Shidler, Liam Shidler, Bently Roybal, Axl Roybal, Jax Roybal, and Sullivan Baker.

Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Nathan Shidler, and siblings Betty Short, Joyce Petre, Sonny Scales, Marjorie Scales, and James Scales.

Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, with Fr. Josh Evans officiating. Burial will follow at the Girard Cemetery in Girard. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022, at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac. The family will receive friends following the rosary from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

In lieu of the flowers, the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Girard Big Flag Fund. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to Friskel Funeral Home, 230 E.
