PITTSBURG, Kan. — The Center for Economic Development and Business Research (CEDBR) at Wichita State University has announced a preliminary list of its upcoming events for 2023, starting with several in Southeast Kansas at the end of January.
The 2023 Kansas Economic Outlook Conference Season will kick off with the Montgomery County
Community Outlook Event (COE), set for 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at the Woods Family Community Center on the Independence Community College West Campus, 2615 W. Main St., Independence.
The day after the Montgomery County COE, the CEDBR will be hosting two more Southeast Kansas events: the Labette County COE, from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Wall Event Center, 2605 Main St., Parsons, and the Southeast Kansas COE, scheduled for 12:30 to 3 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Southeast Kansas Regional Planning Commission, 20 S. Highland Ave., Chanute.
All of the events will feature appearances by CEDBR Director Jeremy Hill, who will be speaking on the topics of the state and regional economic outlook, and Jonathan Norris, CEDBR research economist, who will be speaking about local indicators.
The Montgomery County event will also feature local speaker Riley Lukomski, executive director of the Montgomery County Action Council, and local panelists Candi Westbrook, president and CEO of the Coffeyville Area Chamber of Commerce, Richard Felts of the Kansas Farm Bureau, and Brian Lawrence, president of the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
Besides Hill and Norris, the Labette County COE will feature local speaker Jim Zaleski, economic development director for the City of Parsons. Speakers other than Hill and Norris at the Southeast Kansas COE in Chanute are yet to be determined.
The CEDBR also typically hosts an annual Pittsburg Regional Economic Outlook Conference event later in the year. This year’s Pittsburg conference took place on Oct. 11. In an email announcing the events in January, the CEDBR noted that its schedule of fall 2023 events will be released after the first of the year.
