Carolyn J. Marquez

Carolyn J. Marquez, 84 years old of Frontenac, KS entered eternal rest peacefully at her home in the company of her family on October 9th. She was born on October 5, 1939, in Frontenac, KS. And was the daughter of Joseph Spragg and Tena Cicero Swank.

She had been a resident of Miami, OK, until moving back to the Frontenac area in 1960. She married James Girth in 1959, the father of her three children. Carolyn later married Salvador (Sal) Marquez on July 14, 2001.

She was a graduate of Miami High School in 1957 and NEO Jr. College in 1959. She retired after working 23 years as a Trial Court Clerk at Crawford County District Court. Besides raising 3 children she was continually active in the community. Some of her most notable roles: Via Christi Auxiliary, active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and served years on the Altar Society, and a member of the Frontenac Senior Citizen Building Board.
Carolyn was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who more than anything cherished the time she spent with her family. Carolyn loved her family dearly and was a regular at most of their activities. She was a woman of steadfast faith, lived a life of service to others, and throughout her life served God.

Survivors include a sister, Jamie Hausher of Tulsa, OK; son, Douglas Girth (Rita) of Frontenac, KS; daughters, Teena Girth-Lero of Frontenac, KS and Dana Curtiss (Paul) of Overland Park, KS; stepchildren: Paul Marquez (Sharon), Jane Marquez, Cathy Amaro (Alfredo); grandchildren: Nicole Girth, Ana Fancher (Cliff), Tyler Lero, Lukas Curtiss; step-grandchildren: Sierra Mazour (Tanner), and Rindy, Qwynn, Piper Marquez and Ellynae Amaro; great-grandchildren: Taylor and Keaton Lero, and Beckett, Luca, and Emme Fancher; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, brother, husband Sal, and a grandson, Nicolas Curtiss.

A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 11 at Brenner Mortuary with a visitation to follow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 12, at Our Lady of Lourdes, Pittsburg, KS with Fr. Mike Simone as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery, Pittsburg, KS. The family suggests memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund. Memorials may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary.
