4-H events, deadlines announced

PITTSBURG, Kan. — With the new year right around the corner, K-State Wildcat Extension District and Crawford County 4-H have announced a number of upcoming events and key dates to keep in mind for the first half of 2023. 

The 2023 4-H Horse Panorama is scheduled for Jan. 28 at K-State Salina.  

The deadline for returning families to re-enroll in 4-HOnline is Jan. 31. New families have until May 1 to enroll.  

4-H Club Day will be Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Girard High School cafeteria. Those who give an individual talk or demonstration will be eligible for a $100 scholarship to a 4-H camp or activity. Also on Feb. 4, Junior Leaders will be making sausage at 1 p.m. at the Extension Office, and the Junior Leaders Pancake Feed is scheduled for the following day, Sunday, Feb. 5, also at the Extension Office. Junior Leaders need to call the office to sign up for a shift. 

Later in the month, on Feb. 27 there will be a Junior Leaders Meeting at 6:30 p.m. and 4-H Council Meeting at 7:30 p.m. 

In March, important dates include the March 1 deadline for state 4-H award submissions and Kansas 4-H scholarships. Regional Club Day at Neosho County Community College will be Saturday, March 4. March 11 is K-State Junior Swine Producer Day and March 18 is K-State Junior Meat Goat Producer Day, both of which will be held in Manhattan. All skills levels are invited to sign up and attend. The cost for each event is $20. The deadlines to register are Feb. 15 for Swine Producer Daty and Feb. 22 for Meat Goat Producer Day. 

On March 20, there will be Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) training at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Office, and on March 30 there will be fair judges training at 6 p.m. 

May 1 is the deadline for state 4-H/FFA market beef nominations, and June 1 is the deadline for horse ID papers. Greenbush Camp will be held June 5 and 6 and Discovery Days will be June 7 to 9. The Area Livestock Contest is set for June 16, followed by “Floating on Leadership” planned for June 20 and the Area Challenge Day on June 27.
