Two killed in Labette County crash

PARSONS, Kan. — A Parsons woman and her juvenile passenger were fatally injured in a head-on collision in Labette County on Monday, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. 

A 2015 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound on U.S. 400 Hwy at about 8:36 p.m. when a 2004 Buick Park Avenue driving eastbound crossed the center line and hit the Silverado head-on approximately four miles west of the U.S. 59 junction, according to the KHP crash report. 

Both the driver of the Buick, 30-year-old Valerie Montgomery of Parsons, and her minor passenger suffered fatal injuries in the crash, according to the KHP. 

The driver of the Silverado, 41-year-old Brian D. Brooks of Thayer, was taken to Labette Health with suspected minor injuries while passenger 33-year-old Brittany D. L. Abshere of Thayer was taken to the same hospital for a suspected serious injury. Three juveniles were also present in the vehicle, but it was unclear from the crash report whether they were injured.
