LINN COUNTY — Two people, including a 59-year-old Fort Scott woman, were killed in a head-on collision late Saturday afternoon in Linn County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) crash logs, at 4:56 p.m. on July 29, a 2011 Ford Edge driven by 62-year-old Dennis N. Mayes of Mapleton was westbound on 200th Road just west of Jackson Road, or eight miles south of Mound City. A 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 driven by 21-year-old Clinton C. Barker of Centerville was eastbound.

Both vehicles then crossed the center line as the two collided head-on. The Ford Edge spun into the westbound ditch, while the Dodge Ram entered the eastbound ditch and rolled onto its top.

Dennis and the occupant, 59-year-old Elizabeth A. Mayes of Fort Scott, were pronounced dead at the scene. EMS transported Barker to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for a suspected serious injury.

All three were properly restrained, according to the KHP.
