After a monster weekend at the MIAA Championships, Pittsburg State's Cordell Tinch has been named the NCAA Division II Athlete of the week for men's outdoor track and field by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Tinch, a sophomore, made history three times at the MIAA meet last weekend at Lincoln University's Dwight T. Reed Stadium.

In the 110-meter hurdles on Saturday, Tinch was the fastest qualifier at 13.07 seconds (wind +2.8).

Then in Sunday's finals, Tinch won the event at 12.97 (+3.0), which was the second-fastest time in college history. Only Renaldo Nehemiah of Maryland went faster at 12.91 (+3.5) in 1975.

Also on Saturday, Tinch won the long jump with a wind-aided mark of 27 feet, one-half inch. That's the second-best jump in Division II history behind Kevin Dilworth's wind-legal leap of 27-9.50 for Abilene Christian in 1996.

Also, Tinch won the high jump, clearing 7-2.

This is the second time that Tinch has won the national outdoor honor, the first coming o April 18.
