PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Southeast Kansas Recycling Center (SEKR) recently welcomed Jan Hula as development coordinator. SEKR, located at 615 S. Joplin St. in Pittsburg, has served the community’s recycling and reusing needs for over 20 years.

“I am grateful to serve my community in this capacity,” said Hula. “Our mission is to grow SEKR recognition, develop community partnerships, and generate funds to ensure SEKR remains operational. The way I see it, we are all in this together and we each have a responsibility to do our part. We have the capacity to continue making great things happen in our community.”

Hula began her association with SEKR in 2011 as a volunteer, and was invited to join the Board of Directors the same year. She then served on the SEKR Board for 12 years, retiring in 2023.

She has completed a bachelor of science in social work and a bachelor of fine arts in art from Pittsburg State University, and brings over 25 years of experience in education, facilitation of workshops, event planning, and marketing.

Hula has been involved in the Kansas Leadership Center and Live Well, with strengths in fundraising, grant writing, and public relations. Her primary duties will include strengthening community involvement in SEKR, and obtaining outside funding and donations to support the non-profit Recycling Center.

Hula will be located in The Co-Work Café at Root Coffeehouse.
