PITTSBURG, Kan. — The Pittsburg Police Department is investigating after a 32-year-old man apparently took his own life Sunday evening in a downtown Pittsburg parking lot.

At approximately 7:35 p.m. Sunday, PPD officers, along with first responders from the Pittsburg Fire Department and Crawford County Emergency Medical Services, were dispatched to the 700 block of North Broadway in reference to a report of an unresponsive person in a vehicle located in a parking lot on the west side of the block.

“Upon arrival, officers located a deceased 32-year-old male subject in the vehicle, who sustained what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” according to a PPD press release. “There were no indications of foul play, and a firearm was found in the vehicle.”

The Crawford County Coroner’s Office was contacted for assistance, and the deceased man’s body was sent to Kansas City for autopsy, according to the PPD. The man’s name was not released.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing at this time, the PPD said. Anyone having information related to this incident, or other incidents, is urged to contact the PPD at 620-231-1700 or at the tip line, 620-231-TIPS (8477). Callers may remain anonymous.
