Pittsburg girls win LCHS Invitational

OSWEGO, Kan. — The Pittsburg girls golf team opened their season Tuesday with a team victory and four individual top-10 finishers in the nine-hole LCHS Invitational.

Pittsburg finished collectively with a four-player total of 196, eight strokes better than both Chanute and Columbus, on a sunny and a little warm day at the Oswego Golf Course.

Alyssa Cosens, Jacqueline Hall and Haylee Graham finished in the third through fifth spots, as Cosens shot 46, Hall 49 and Graham 50.

Ava Steier completed the Pittsburg top-10 quartet and placed eighth at 51. Macy Farrington carded a 64 to finish 29th and Faith Leonard shot 71 to finish 34th.

Girard, one of only two schools not from the Southeast Kansas League, finished sixth at 251.

Girard’s Karlyn Fisher cracked the top-10 with her 50 to earn her seventh. Ariana Ramirez finished 25th at 61, Hanna Bailey 28th at 64 and Jordyn Oplotnik 37th at 76.

Mallory Thompson, who helped Columbus qualify for the state tournament last season, earned top individual honors with a 43.

Chanute’s Delaney Hastings took second at 45, Columbus’ Reese Grundy sixth at 50, Chanute’s Emma Waltermire ninth at 52 and Coffeyville’s Jessica Zimmerman 10th at 52.
