Posted

WHITESTOWN, Ind. — The Pittsburg 12-under All-Stars struggled in almost every phase of the game during their Midwest Regional opener Friday morning against Fargo (North Dakota).

Fargo scored four runs in the first, three in the second, two in the fifth and six in the sixth to earn a 15-1 win in six innings at the LL Central Region Complex.

Pittsburg scored the one run in the first, compiled two hits and committed eight errors.

Keaton Peak and Tate Renn each singled for the lone hits. Peak drove in Renn for the only run. Renn, Kingstun Pollard and Tanner Akins each reached with a walk.

Pittsburg starter Luke Jones took the loss and he allowed seven runs (three earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and four walks over the first 3 1/3 innings.

Renn tossed 1 2/3 in relief and allowed two runs (both earned) on three hits with one strikeout and one walk.

Peak pitched the sixth and surrendered six runs (one earned) on two hits and one walk.

Other than allowing one run on a pair of hits in the first, Fargo’s Reese Evenson proved overpowering in his five innings of work and recorded 11 strikeouts and one walk.

Pittsburg meets Webb City (Missouri) in an elimination game Sunday morning between small-town opponents separated only by about 30 miles.

Webb City lost 5-2 against Wisconsin state champion Shorewood on Friday.

The Pittsburg-Webb City winner stays alive to play the next elimination game on Monday.

Back in 2019, Webb City eliminated Pittsburg 3-1.
