McCune man arrested for murder

McCUNE, Kan. —The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call shortly before 1 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7 from an individual who reported a shooting at 709 5th Street in McCune. 

The caller advised that her grandfather just shot her brother.

Deputies responded to the residence, and upon arrival located an unresponsive male victim outside of the residence. The male victim had sustained an injury from a gunshot. 

Life saving measures were attempted, but the victim did not survive his injuries. The victim was identified as Ian Fox, 28, of Lexington, Kentucky. 

The suspect was detained at the scene and subsequently arrested and transported to the Crawford County Jail. The suspect was identified as John Fox, 70, of McCune. He is being charged with murder in the 2nd degree, intentional.

The Crawford County Deputy Coroner responded to the scene. The victim will be transported to Kansas City for autopsy. 

Crawford County EMS and McCune fire also responded to the scene.

The investigation is ongoing. John Fox is presumed innocent unless and until the allegations against him are proven beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
