PITTSBURG, Kan. — An 18-year-old Pittsburg man was arrested Monday after a 14-year-old girl, who had been reported as a runaway to the Fort Scott Police Department, was found hiding in the trunk of his mother’s car, which he had allegedly taken without permission.

Last Tuesday, Dec. 27, Pittsburg police took a report from Yvonne Timko regarding her son, 18-year-old Rylie M. Timko, taking her vehicle without permission. The vehicle was reportedly taken from her residence on East Carlton Street in Pittsburg, according to the Pittsburg Police Department.

On Wednesday, Dec. 28, the PPD received information from the FSPD about a 14-year-old female runaway, who was likely in the company of Rylie Timko, possibly being in the area. The 14-year-old runaway and Rylie Timko were reportedly involved in a dating relationship with each other.

On Saturday morning, Dec. 31, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Pittsburg police officers were checking a vehicle, which matched the description of Yvonne Timko’s missing vehicle, in the 400 block of East 27th Street. While checking the vehicle, which was determined to be Yvonne Timko’s missing vehicle, officers located the 14-year-old runaway hiding in the trunk of the vehicle, according to the PPD. The runaway was taken into custody without incident and transported to the police station for processing with juvenile intake. Yvonne Timko’s vehicle was returned to her.

On Monday morning, Jan. 2, at approximately 11:05 a.m., Rylie Timko was located at his mother’s residence on East Carlton Street and was taken into custody without incident, according to the PPD. He was arrested for felony contributing to a child’s misconduct or deprivation, and was transported to the Crawford County Jail for booking. He was being held Tuesday without bond.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing at this time. Anyone having information related to this incident, or other incidents, is urged to contact the Pittsburg Police Department at 620-231-1700, or at the tip line, 620-231-TIPS (8477). Callers may remain anonymous.
