Albert Marrone, Jr., flipped through the pages of a fragile, 75-year-old ledger, Monday. On each yellowed page, he saw the names of Italian immigrants who played such an important role in the early history of Crawford County and the coal mining region of southeast Kansas. The ledger Marrone held so gently is a record of the annual orders of California wine grapes that the Marrone family’s produce company delivers to area families who continue the tradition of wine making that they brought with them from their homes in Italy.
