Karl C. McColm

Karl C. McColm, 88, of rural Girard, passed away at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital.
He was born March 25, 1935 in Carona, Kansas to Guy F. and Geraldine (Grandle) McColm. He went to West Mineral grade school, then to rural Mt. Pleasant School, and in 1955, graduated from McCune Rural High School.
He married his high school sweetheart Charlotte Sue Kerrick on April 1, 1961 at the United Chapel Church north of McCune. They moved to their rural Girard home in 1965 on her grandparent's property that he and his wife purchased in 1995. Charlotte preceded him in death March 17, 2023.
Karl served in the United States Army from December 3, 1957 until November 19, 1959 before being honorably discharged.
Mr. McColm worked for P&M Coal Company for 18 years as a Heavy Equipment Operator.
Mr. McColm was a former member of the United Chapel Church north of McCune and attended the McCune Church of the Nazarene. Membership was held in the UMWA, Black Diamond Lodge of Weir, and was a former of the American Legion Post #35 of Cherokee; Karl also was a farmer and a rancher in his spare time.
He is survived by two sons, Darren L. McColm of Ft. Scott, KS, and Karl Aaron McColm of rural Girard; one granddaughter, Madyson McColm of Wilmington, NC; one brother, Eugene McColm of Wichita, Kansas; and one sister, Charlotte Forth of Weir, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Charlotte, two brothers, Floyd and Charles McCollm, and two sisters, Charlene Wilson and Helen Ault.
A Graveside Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (October 26th) at the Monmouth Cemetery east of McCune. Graveside Military Honors will be provided by the US Army Funeral Detail. Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests expressions of sympathy be given to Parkinson’s Foundation for Research. These may be given the day of the service or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, l14 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
