GARNETT, Kan. — The Girard Trojans and the Northeast Vikings opened their cross country season Thursday in the Jerry Howarter Invitational hosted by Anderson County High School.
On the boys side, Girard senior Gabe Onelio and junior Houston McGown earned the top individual spots, with Onelio winning the 5,000-meter run in 17 minutes and 13 seconds and McGown not very far behind in 17:18.
The Trojans placed fifth overall in the team standings with 100 points.
Seth Wilson finished 40th in 20:40, Mason Adolph 49th in 21:26, Gavin Jackman 53rd in 21:43, Harrison Burke 59th in 22:19 and Tye Humble 66th in 22:37.
Northeast’s Nathon Trammell finished 42nd in 20:58, Spencer Wade 57th in 22:02.90 and Devin Smith 61st in 22:20.
Girard junior Natalia Onelio led the Trojan girls by finishing 16th in 23:18, and the Trojans placed fourth among five teams scoring with 102 points.
August Mooningham placed 24th in 23:59, Claire Stevens 27th in 24:05, Kennedy Keller 31st in 24:51 and Kaylen McAtee 49th in 27:57.90.
Girard’s teams are home next Thursday for their annual Rigatoni Run, while Northeast travels next Thursday to Fort Scott.
