Girard Medical Center expands services in Frontenac

Partnership brings behavioral health, psychotherapy telehealth to clinic

FRONTENAC, Kan. — Girard Medical Center has announced a new partnership with Integrative Health Centers (IHC) to provide behavioral health and psychotherapy telehealth services in its Frontenac clinic.

Christie Wetzel, psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, and LeAnne Garland, LCSW, are also being welcomed to the Girard Medical Center team. Wetzel and Garland will be providing psychotherapy services to help people with a broad variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties by providing tools to assist patient’s mental function and increase well-being. Psychotherapy is used to treat problems such as anxiety, depression, bipolar and other mood disorders, coping with daily life, the impact of trauma and PTSD, anger, grief, and ADHD. 

Wetzel is board certified as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and a family nurse practitioner. She obtained her Master of Science in nursing and post-master's certificate from the University of Cincinnati. 

Wetzel has experience in a variety of settings, including working with homeless veterans struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues, as well as working with adolescents and adults with a variety of mental health issues, including mood disorders and anxiety disorders as inpatients, outpatients, and in partial hospitalization programs. Additionally, she has experience with eating disorder patients, trauma survivors, and patients struggling with severe mental illness, as well as in forensic psychiatry.

Garland is a licensed clinical social worker. She received her master's in social work from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. 

She has experience working with individuals who are dealing with anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, behavioral issues, and trauma. 

Past experiences include working in an inpatient behavioral health unit, individual and family therapy in an outpatient setting, sexual abuse, and child advocacy center, MRT therapy within the prison system and overseeing an intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization program.

Girard Medical Center also recently welcomed Lindsay Pitts, DPT, to the family. Pitts, a native of Girard, attended Pittsburg State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 2006. She received her doctor of physical therapy degree from Wichita State University in 2009. 

Pitts has worked in inpatient, inpatient rehab, and outpatient settings in both Wichita and Pittsburg prior to joining the therapy team at Girard Medical Center. She has advanced training in pelvic health, dry needling, and LSVT “Big.” She is now seeing patients in the physical therapy department.
