Gayle June Moody, 80, of Frontenac, passed away at 9:34 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2023 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Mrs. Moody was born January 12, 1943 in Frontenac, Kansas the daughter of Samuel "Pug" and Christine Mock Kelly, and sister to Judy Strahan. Wife of William Terry Moody, mother of William Moody (Vicki), L. Thomas Moody (Heidi), and Robert Moody (Michelle). Nana to Anthony Moody (Alison), Dr. Michael Dostal (Dr. Lauren), Stephanie Kotzman, Maggie Moody, Margo Moody, Dr. Allie Moody, Abagayle Moody, and Annabella Moody; great-grandmother to six; and also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Terry Moody, her sister Kathy Tomasi, and her brother Tom Restivo.

Gayle was a lifelong resident and active member of the Frontenac Kansas community. Her greatest passions were cooking, hosting, and most importantly her family. Known by many terms of endearment by many members of the community and known as an open house for anyone to come say hello, knowing they would not be leaving without a full stomach on her watch. Her Italian cookies were a highly requested dessert by her grandchildren for any event, big or small. Holidays, Christmas especially, held a special place in Gayle's home. Festivities included, but were never limited to, an obscenely large meal, a visit from Santa Claus in the flesh, followed by a round of drinks with card games included. Left/right/center was her favorite, and the most serious she would be throughout the night (she won often). Gayle prided herself on her family and community. She was an active member of the Catholic Church, the Sacred Heart Altar Society, the Italian Club, and the Pittsburg State University Club. Gayle brightened any room she entered with a brightly colored outfit, a smile, and a wave. This was perfectly showcased just two weeks before her passing when she had the honor of being the Grand Marshall of the Frontenac Mining Days parade. She was a lot of things to a lot of people, but average was never one of them. Always going the extra step for those she loves. Her loss is felt deeply, and her legacy will live on through her family in their achievements and time spent together.
