Estonian students visit with patients at Pittsburg Care and Rehabilitation Center

Posted

PITTSBURG, Kan. — Four college students from the Northern European nation of Estonia spent the day bringing flowers to Pittsburg Care and Rehabilitation Center and talking with the patients on Sunday, Aug. 6. The international students are in the US on a J1 Work & Travel visa for the purposes of gaining a greater understanding of the US through cultural immersion.

Their visit is part of an exchange program through Global Educational Concepts (GEC), and they contributed their time and efforts as part of Exchange Day, a nationwide celebration of the power of international exchanges. The goal for Exchange Day is to bring participants and locals together for a day of service to the community or individuals.

“We are very proud of all of the participants who took part in this year’s International J1 Exchange day. As they share their cultures with ours and us with them, we’re developing the world’s future leaders,” said Dave Causer, President of GEC. “Giving back to the community is a just one of the many ways they have enriched the USA by being here for this short-term exchange this summer.”

Exchange Day activities occurred across the United States where similar events and acts of service provided an opportunity for international exchange program participants and their hosts to have an opportunity to share cultural diversity and customs, while giving back to local communities.
